Production Sound Mixer / Boom Operator

Planning for Location Sound

My blog post on Planning for Location Sound provides a practical overview on getting the best sound on set.

Professional sound recording for feature films, short films, web series, commercials, and industrials.

As a fellow filmmaker, I completely understand the challenges of completing a project with artistic and technical excellence. My services also include a complete sound kit, saving you the cost of renting additional gear.

I use a boom microphone and wireless lavaliers for recording concurrently on discrete audio tracks. You get the best elements for mixing audio selections in post-production.

Before shooting in a given location, I identify any kind of noise that might cause problems. It could be as simple as turning off a refrigerator with a noisy compressor, or laying sound blankets to reduce creaking on the floor and echoes in the room. In short, when there is a problem, I work to solve it before it becomes your problem later on.

I record room tone, rehearsals, and as possible, have talent record wild lines to ensure additional usable audio takes. The result is quality sound that saves you time and money (and headaches) in post-production from unnecessary Automatic Dialog Replacement (ADR). I can also accommodate additional booms and lavaliers as your budget allows.

When you trust someone to record sound for your most important project, you can feel confident that I will act with the same amount of professionalism and responsibility that you do.

Here is my professional resume, sound reel, and IMDb.

Sound Kit

Zoom F6 Professional Field Recorder

The power of 32-bit float.

The Zoom F6 features 32-bit float recording and dual A/D converters, providing an unprecedented amount of dynamic range. What this means is that it can record explosive and subtle sounds without any loss of detail. There is absolutely no clipped or faded audio.

Sennheiser MKH-416 Microphone

The industry standard for television and motion pictures.

Its directional pattern captures excellent vocal resonance and clarity while effectively reducing ambient sound. The kit also includes the Rycote Lyre Shockmount and Softee (used for wind protection when shooting outdoors).

RØDE Wireless GO II

The world’s smallest wireless microphone system has been reborn. With the ability to automatically monitor and hop between frequencies, it maintains the strongest possible digital signal over a 200-meter range. Matched with the RØDE omnidirectional lavalier microphone, it provides the highest possible audio reproduction quality. A set of 2 digital wireless transmitters are included.
